Film Review: Enter The Void by Gaspar Noé
Discovering "Enter The Void"
I first found this movie through Jacob Geller's most recent video.
All I knew from that video and the letterboxd synopsis was that the movie was in a First Person View and about a guy dying and seeing his past, present and future in the afterlife.
My friend then chose this movie for us to watch after reading the letterboxd synopsis of this and a few other movies those being Hardcore Henry and Maniac by Franck Khalfoun
and so it was of to the races watching this movie.

The Experience of watching "Enter The Void" with another human being
I quite liked the beginning of the movie, minus the credits with their extensive strobe light effects. These effects were used quite frequently through in the film.
Honestly the movie started off strong. It sets off the afterlife to come with one of the protagonists friends talking about a buddhist book of the dead and explaining it to the protagonist and to us the audience.
To not spoil too much, the protagonist dies and becomes what is essentially a ghost.
This leads to him going to see his sister at her workplace where she's having sex with who I assumed to be her manager. This meant sitting through a fairly long near silent sex scene, which honestly I wouldn't mind sitting through if I was by myself, I could just skip it.
However, it was certainly quite awkward to sit though with someone else.
Honestly, it's the reason I'm writing this review in first place.
It felt as though there was a new sex scene every 5 minutes and so we dropped the movie and went on to watch something else.
